Demeter and the four seasons Greek myth series

Demeter is intimately associated with the seasons. Her daughter Persephone was abducted by Hades to be his wife in the underworld. In her anger at her daughter's loss Demeter laid a curse on the world that caused plants to wither and die, the land became desolate. Zeus became alarmed and sought Persephone's return. However, because she had eaten while in the underworld Hades had a claim on her. Therefore, it was decreed that Persephone would spend four months each year in the underwold. During these months Demeter greves her daughters absence, and withdraws her gifts from the world, creating winter. Her return brought the spring.

WINTER
This one was the most challenging piece of my series obviously because it is currently spring so getting a wintery feel was rather hard to achieve. I angled the picture up so i wouldn't get any green trees but it ended up making her look squatty and I added small dodged dots to look somewhat like snow.
SPRING
This one was frustrating also because it was the last scene I shot and my models weren't both in character in many shots and it was getting dark. I like how many buds there are on the trees but I feel like it almost distracts the eye from what's supposed to be going on. I tried to show the reuniting of the two and a new season springing up!
SUMMER
This shot is my favorite because of how rich the green looks and how relaxed and natural looking my models look. I tried to make Kayla (aka Demeter) look older and more mother-like but it was challenging because Tori (Persephone) is a bit taller than her.
FALL
The height problem was an issue again in this photo because they look the same height and look more like sisters than mother-and-daughter. I like that the leaves are everywhere still but, again, I think the detail might take away from the scene...but I am often overly critical of myself so I guess we'll see what the class thinks?..

night/

For my texture shot I chose a picture I took over spring break in Florida because i love how detailed everything is from the reflection of my friend tanning to the tiny strings in the towel. I boosted the colors to bring out the bright, blue, sunny feel and like it a lot.

For my night picture I ended up having to use two different pictures from Florida on the beach because in all the shots i took, either the light was barely noticeable or you the model was super blown out and blurry. I don't like this picture very much but I was working without a tripod and an unfamiliar camera because mine decided to break at some point on the drive down. WOO!...

Environment

This picture is of my friend Ellie hanging from a bridge over a river. The environment doesn't exactly pertain to WHERE she is but HOW she is. She is a lot of fun and super adventurous so I felt this truly captured her personality.

Portraits

Split Lighting:

This portrait is my least favorite because of how unnatural the pose is and how poorly the lighting (split) hits her face. I had other shots of her on different sides of this tree and in different poses but because of how dark her upper eye makeup was and how the sun hit her face all the others looked like her eyes were closed completely.

Split Lighting:

This portrait is easily my favorite simply because of how amazing her eyes looked without any editiing and how subtle and warm the split lighting looks on her. One thing I would probably change about this portrait would be to stand a little farther back from her and then crop it later if it needed it.

Rembrant Lighting:

This one isn't my favorite but not awful I guess. I like how the light hits her face in a noticeable, yet not harsh way. One thing I would change about this photo would be to have her sitting on a real wooden bench and to not have the shaddow from the pier behind her.

40 Photos and Texture

This was not my favorite work but I think I could make it better by adding more very translucent flowers over the whole view. I like how rich all the colors are especially the upper left flower. I originally had them all overlapping but the snowey background drowned out the other flowers and didn't look like I wanted it to...over all I think I just need to plan on what I want my shot to look like and not procrastinate so much!

I like this picture a lot with the added texture but it sort of looks unreal. I don't like how weird the editing made her eyes look but the texture is good because it gives it a rigid, cold look which I like. Also, I love all the different colors she's wearing and she stands out a lot in front of the colorless snow.

Macro

For this photo I tried to focus on all the detail and texture of the lonely plant by setting my camera to super macro which blurred out the rest of the background.

This picture was taken from the bottom of a line of pipes and was set to macro. The pipe makes the picture look really cool, I think, and leads your eye up the building and into the sky. One downfall of this picture is that the focal point/center pipe is dead center in the middle of the frame, but I feel like if it wasn't it wouldn't have the same flowy, somewhat mechanical look.

I set my camera to macro again for this shot but I think it looks kind of grainy. I do like this shot though because the background isn't visually blurry because there isn't a lot of detail behind the chain.

This picture is easily my favorite. I set this one to super macro and it picked up on so much of the detail in the wood and without any photoshop editing. What I want to try with this picture is make the wood and the view in back of the hole clear and see if that looks interesting.

White Balance

This picture was taken from in my car at the end of my photography adventure and was set to sunny. I like how the focal point in the mirror somewhat leads your eye into the glass because of the depth.

This one is, again, set to sunny White Balance and I like it a lot but I wish the leaf was larger and maybe a little darker.

For this picture (set on sunny) I focused on the transition of the ice to the water.

I used a sunny setting again on this and love how the sun playes up the warm look of the wood and the overall picture.
